Locked out of my library?
I've been using Vista and WMP to stream media to my PS3 and 360. It's been working great. It even worked well under Win 7 until recently. About a week ago I stopped seeing my PC as a server on both the consoles. So today I googled the problem and saw it recommended that I setup a "homegroup". I did so. I also set one up on my wife's laptop. I combined the accounts. I noticed at that point that it wouldn't let me keep the check boxes checked next to any of the sharing options. For example, I could check to share Music, Photos, Videos, Documents and Printers. If I checked them, selected save and returned to the menu they'd all be unchecked with the possible selection of Printers. At this point I wanted to check my library on my wife's computer. Not surprisingly I couldn't see my PC from her computer. So then I tried checking my library on my own computer and found my music folder empty. I quickly left the group. My Music folder remained empty. So I went through Windows Explorer to get to the folder in question. It appears to have been locked down. I'm not sure if I toggled something incorrectly when I setup "homegroup" but now it appears everything in "My Documents" has been toggled Read Only. I can't remove the check mark as Windows tells me a I need administrator rights to do so. I am the only user on the PC. Also, just before I attempted this I loaded up iTunes and synced my iPod. Just after my attempt iTunes will no longer load. It tells me that the iTunes library (located in my music folder) is on a locked drive or that I do no have write permission for this file.Any help or suggestions as to how to return my documents to it's normal state? Is there an option in some "sharing" setup that I toggled incorrectly? Any input would be greatly appreciated. It's basically made my PC useless at this point. I'm willing to try almost anything to avoid re-installing back to Vista.

I experience a similar problem with files in a Library being randomly tagged Private or read-only (not as a file Attribute) and unable to change or even delete them. But they can be deleted/changed from another Windows OS (multi-boot system). I sent a detailed report via "Send Feedback" . I can't see any advantage posting here if it will be redirected to a Comments only forum.

Hello, I have the same issue running the 64 bit version of Ultimate. Even though I have full control as an Administrator and take control of all my directory files, I am locked out-with a read only flag and I cannot change it or modify any files. If I go into a backup copy of Vista I can change the Read-only flag, but when I reboot in Windows 7, the flag is still set. Anyway to fix this without re-installing Windows 7RC? Thanks, James B. Kirk

Ditto, today it just happened to me, Running the NEW Win7 Ultimate that I received with the "party pack"... How does a folder lock itself??? This is annoying. My entire "user" folder is locked, and I don't ever remember locking it.
