Logging onto Windows
So for some reason I turn my laptop on and it is telling me to push control, alt, delete to keep my computer secure. It has never done this before. So I do it and then it asks for a username and password. I have never set either one up on my laptop. It won't let me on anything and I was wondering if there is someway you can override this to actually get on everything? I have bought this computer used and thought maybe I could override this some how then get on and change everything. HELP!!!!1 person needs an answerI do too

Ok. But what do I do if it won't let me get that far? It starts up and loads windowns then wants me to press control alt delete then asks for a username and password before I can even get to start. It is just a box and if I don't put the correct one in it just give me the option of doing it again or shutting down.

(Tap f8 repeatedly during the boot process). If the logon screen asks you to enter Ctrl/Alt/Del, do so.The resulting logon screen might offer a choice of accounts. If so, select the built-in account named Administrator. Leave the password field blank (unless you have previously set a password for that account). Or enter the password (if you have previously set a password for the built-in Administrator account). If the logon screen does not offer a choice of accounts, type Administrator in the User Account field. Leave the password field blank (unless you have previously set a password for that account). Otherwise, enter the password for that user account. Hopefully, this procedure will enable you to boot into Windows Safe Mode.Open Control Panel and click on User Accounts. Select the name of your normal User Account. Delete (or change) any password on that account. Make a careful note of the name of your normal User Account, because you will probably need it subsequently.Reboot your computer. If the logon screen asks you to enter Ctrl+Alt+Del, do so.Then, enter the name of your normal User Account in the Account Name field.Enter your password - or leave the password field blank.Once Windows has loaded, click on StartClick on Run...Enter 'control userpasswords2' in the 'Open:' fieldClick on Advanced and uncheck the box marked 'Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Del'Click on OK.Try to reboot your computer. This time, everything should be OK.

To answer your question, go to Start | Run, and type "controluserpasswords2" Select the account you want to logon to automatically. Then uncheck the box "Users must enter a user name and password to usethis computer."Or do the same thing with TweakUI.2. If I acquired a used computer, no matter who previously owned it,the first thing I would do with it would be to reinstall the operatingsystem cleanly. You have no idea how the computer has been maintained, what has been installed incorrectly, what is missing, what viruses andspyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live with somebody else's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddy p0rn, etc., and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else do so either. You're playing with fire if you don't reinstall Windows cleanly.Ken Blake (MS MVP)
