Lync 2010 client asks for credentials when outside of corporate network.

Hello,

We are running Lync 2010 Enterprise. Everytime our Lync users are outside of our network and they log in to their Lync client, they get a pop-up window asking for credentials. When they log into Lync inside our network the Lync client connects automatically without asking for credentials. Is this normal behavior? I assumed that the Lync client would behave exactly no matter where they were connecting from. They are using Lync 2010 client on domain joined laptops, I would assume the Lync client would just use the same credentials they used to log in to their computers and not ask for anything. Please let me know if there is a way to stop the pop-up from showing up when people try to connect to Lync from outside our network.

Thanks for any help!

Outside of the network the credential popup is for Exchange web services on the back end to check calendar info, contact lookup, etc.  If Lync is already logged in when they see the popup, this is normal behav

agree with Anthony.

The users will get prompted at least once - in my experience they can hit SAVE PASSWORD and we are not typically prompted again until a change or something just acts up.

Also, if applicable there may be correlation between your UPN not matching  your SIP address.  We have found that when the UPN and sip address matches - login integrates better all around.  Especially if you have Exchange in the cloud.

You are right. I read the message on the pop-up window and it states that the credentials are for retrieving calendar info from Outlook/Exchange.

Thanks for your help!!

I checked and my users UPN matches their SIP address. Does that mean they shouldn't get that pop-up window asking for credentials? Is there a way that I can make the login process to Lync work seamlessly with Exchange?

Rarakane,

I just read an interesting post that helped me understand the Lync/Exchange method of authentication.  Please see if you find value...

Thanks Greg! That helped me understand the reason for the login pop-up. As always, your knowledge is greatly appreciated.
