Lync 2013 High CPU Usage

I have a different case with the same version but 32-bit variant on my Windows 8 Notebook (Dell).

My system has i5 CPU M520 @2.4GHz with speed stepping enabled.

  •  As soon as I start Lync it is forcing the CPU to run at its high speed/power consumption mode i.e at 2.4GHz.
  •  If I quit Lync CPU operates nearly at 1.5Ghz without changing any other load on the CPU.

This makes the battery to dry sooner. somehow I didn't like Lync 2013 as it doenst sync with my outlook calendar, etc.!

Lync 2013 takes about 20% CPU and makes fan go to takeoff noise...

Response from program is terrible, totally useless. Must wait  many seconds for each key I type.

Edit: I have problem with my soundcard and/or driver, and it seems related. Found other posts about the same

I am having the same issue with windows 8.1 and 2013. The program is essentially not usable for me right now due to how poorly that it performs.

Any help would be appreciated.

I was suffering this exact same issue with my Lync 2013 client. CPU pegged at 20-30%, the client itself totally unusable. I narrowed it down to a problem with my audio driver package. This was on a Dell Latitude E6230 with IDT audio driver package from Dell themselves.

As soon as I uninstalled the IDT Audio package from Programs & Features and restarted the system, Lync is back to working perfectly. CPU usage back down to 0%.

I suspect Lync 2013 still has some bugs related to hooking into audio drivers for voice calls. If Microsoft doesn't have a plug-and-play driver for your Audio device rolling back to an earlier version of the audio driver might also resolve it, but I didn't test that.

I have the same problem - after some uptime lync.exe eats up one cpu core, starts eating memory, freezes for a moment for each key I type and click I make and so on.

I have to kill it from task manager and launch again. Actually, when I need to chat with someone, first I go to task manager and check Lync... 90% times I have to kill it and restart.

However, my PC isn't Dell. It's simple PC with some Asus motherboard and Intel Display Audio (according to device manager...)

Same problem here.

Lync uses 7-10% cpu all the time, 7% is mimimum.

It makes the CPU put other tasks in a queue and makes everything slower. Allot slower compared to how things goes when I'm not running lync. Taskmanager takes about 5 seconds to open, compared to 1 sec when I'm not running Lync.

Software: Microsoft Lync 2013 (15.0.4711,1002) 64-bit
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Enterprise
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K @ 3.40 GHz
Memory: 16GB

Hi all,

Regarding Lync and audio,its not many modells that is supported or have passed "lync test".

For a full list please check here: http://partnersolutions.skypeforbusiness.com/solutionscatalog/personal-peripherals-pcs

If your pc is not on the list,then best recomendation is to uninstall audio/video driver from your vendor and use driver from Microsoft update.

Its neither not recomended to use built in speaker and sound for Lync call/meeting.Best practise is to use headset that is supported for Lync.

Reason for this is because if echo gets to high,Lync with cut/drop the sound and you will experience sound lag.

I found a resolution to this.

1. Open Microsoft Office Word
2. File -> Options -> Advanced
3. Under "Display", check the box for "Disable hardware graphics acceleration".

It did not change any thing from my side even after I applied the above mentioned change.

I still see the same high CPU% and very slow, actually dead slow response from Lync/Skype for business.
