Lync Meeting URL not launching Client or displaying Attendee/WebApp web page

We are running Lync 2010 with a Standard Front End Server, a Director Server and a BackEnd SQL Server.

The problem we have is that the meeting URL is not launching any clients when you click the link. All we get is the web page in the screenshot below:

We have tested it on many different fully patched PCs:

  • Windows 7 - Lync 2010 Client installed
  • Windows 7 - No Lync Client installed
  • Windows 8 - Lync 2010 Desktop Client installed
  • Windows 8 - Lync 2010 Metro Client Installed
  • Windows 8 - No Lync Client Installed

It has also been tested with multiple browsers:

  • IE8
  • IE9
  • IE10
  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Safari

There is nothing showing in the PC & the Lync Server Event Logs.

If we append ?SL= to the end of the URL we receive the join using Attendee/WebApp web page and can then join the meeting successfully.

I have run the Lync Logging tool on both the FrontEnd and Director servers and couldn't see anything useful.

Running ProcMon on the PC shows that the browser is checking various REG keys and the existance of the specific DLL files.

We obviously have the ?SL= workaround but we cannot expect all of our Users to manually edit the URL in their browsers before they join the meeting.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Phil.

please disable your proxy server settings and try again because it looks like some device is inserting a graphic I have never seen before? What does "HIS" actually mean?  I cannot read the small prints

Hi,

Would you tell us more details about "HIS"?

Please also disable all of third party services and test the issue again.

We have rebranded the Lync Meeting webpages with our corporate logo. All we did was to replace the Lync logo with another one of the same size. We did this over a year ago and the meetings were working up until a few weeks ago.

HIS stands for Health Informatics Service.

We have tried lots of different scenarios on multiple PCs and it still doesn't work.

We don't run firewalls on the PCs and we have tested the URLs with our AV software switched off.

Hi,

The issue happen a few weeks ago, did you any changes on Lync server or clients?

The issue may be related to Meeting Join Launcher application, you can try to reinstall Lync conferencing servers to test the issue.

I have repaired the installations on both the FrontEnd and the Director servers. I still have the problem.

My customers are starting to get a bit upset :(

We rebranded the launch page by following this webpage: http://www.ehloworld.com/793

Hi

You can try to replace the Lync Meeting webpages to the default setting and test the issue again. In addition, please try to use snooper tool and get more information for troubleshooting.

Hi Kent,

I will have go with the Snooper tool and get back to you.

Replacing the Lync webpages will not fix the problem as the meeting URLs were working for months after we branded the pages.

Hi Kent,

I have put the default branding back on to the meeting webpages and still no joy . . .

I have also run multiple tests and checked the results in Snooper. Nothing obvious.

I tested the meeting URL on an iPad and it opened the iOS Lync Client with no problems.

This is looking like there has been an update recently (perhaps a windows hotfix???) that has broken something on the Windows Client PCs.

Any more ideas ?

An update . . . .

I have created another temporary Front End server (FrontEnd2) in another Lync Site. The DNS settings for the meet URL were changed to point to this new server and the meetings opened correctly.

As another test we pointed the DNS to the FrontEnd1 server directly and this failed to open the URLs correctly.

So it is looking like the issue is on the FrontEnd1 server.

What is the best way to perform a fresh install of Lync on the FrontEnd1 server ?

Phil
