Lync Phone edition not updating

Hi All, Hopefully I can find an answer to this.

We are running Lync 2010 Enterprise backend, with 2 FE, LB, etc... We have Polycom CX600 phones, and all is ok with logging in. Problem is that the phones don't want to update to new firmware.

Updating from 4.0.7577.4397 to 4.0.7577.4414.

Test-CsPhoneBootStrap gives back a Success result.

Ive checked the IIS logs and im not getting a Request for update. Also checked the logs for the phones, there is errors but nothing really helpful. On the phone the error code is 0x5/500.

Any suggestion would be very helpful. Thanks!

Hello Paul

Have you placed the relevant update files onto the Lync fronted servers.? I would suggest running the cs-firware.ps1 file from Pat Richard which does an excellent job of placing the right update on the Lync system.

then you need to go into the Lync control panel and authorised the version before it will update the phones. (also its with 15 mins of inactivity)

Regards

Iain Smith

500 is internal server error and I don't remember seeing a 0x5. But as Iain suggested, check on LSCP to see if the update is uploaded and approved.

Might be worth checking LYncShare\1-WebServices-2\DeviceUpdateStore\UCPhone\POLYCOM\CX600 to see if your update is exists.

Best way to initate the update is to restart the phone and leave it idle.

Let us know how it goes..

Thanks for the responses.

I have checked and the updates have uploaded and approved. Also checked location and files are there.

I also have left the phone overnight and come back in the morning and still no change, and same last update status error.

Last night I did decide to bypass the LB and now im getting request handlers to update to lastest version, but still no luck with phones updating. This is the request handler im getting.

2013-11-21 06:40:50 10.0.0.123 GET /RequestHandler/Files/UCPhone/POLYCOM/CX600/Rev-5/ENU/4.0.7577.4414/CPE/CPE.nbt - 80 - 10.0.0.125 Microsoft+UCPhone+Device+(lcs_se_w14_main:1269924:2013/06/26:09:45:49) 500 19 67 15

Any other thoughts?

Hi, Are you able to see GET request for CPE.nbt and CPE.cat (presume you have these 2 files and a CPE_desc file in the update folders ) ?

Are the permissions correct on the web services / lync file share ? http://blog.schertz.name/2013/03/breaking-down-lync-file-share/

If the above are fine - can probably try and delete the existing update files, upload the updates again and assign a test device to try on just one device to see how it goes.

Let me know how it goes...

Hi Paulskee,

Please update to the latest version for Lync server 2010.

Please double check if it caused by certificate (it may cause by the untrusted or misconfiguration).

More details:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398270(v=ocs.14).aspx

Please be aware that updates are not automatically copied over, it needs to be uploaded to each server in the FE pool. You can use the Device Update Web service on the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Control Panel to upload it as an administrator.

You can also reset to roll the firmware back to see if it's a problem with the current download.  Hold down '4' and '6' while powering up the device to be prompted to roll-back to the last installed version.

Best Regards,

Eason Huang

Hi,

Is the Lync Share folder security is set to Everyone full control? The IP Phones must have read and write access to the Lync File share to fetch the update package
