MSConfig Improvment
This is feedback regarding a design improvement for the msconfig panel in xp, vista, win7, 8, 9 10 ...... Problem: The operating systems can become unstable if the user enables Normal Startup under the General Tab because the user is mislead to believe the option is safe and or is advised via Microsofts KB310353 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353/en-us) If the user is enables All Startups that include all previously disabled/unwanted/corrupted/duplicated/expired services and startups the system may fail to start. Solution 1: At this time the option to delete/remove services and startups should be added to the msconfig panel. Solution 2: KB 310353 and others needs to be amended by adding a warning about enabling Normal Startup and information regarding the utilization of system restore before amending MSConfig. -- db`...><)))> . db

This forum deals with problems with Activation and Validation in Vista - not general suggestions. That apart, I have to disagree with your basic premise - MSCONFIG is not something that the average user even knows about, until they have problems that bring them to the forums or other assistance. MSCONFIG is intended (and has always been intended) as a short-term fix for *boot* problems, and not as a long-term solution for anything. If you're using it in the latter sense, then you are not using it as originally intended, and need your wrists slapped hard <g>. Any situation that requires the use of MSCONFIG to edit the Startup axis needs to be investigated, not only because of the potential for malware, but also for the potential for software conflicts, If you ignore that proviso, then you are flying without a license, and can expect to crash in the future. -- Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

"MSCONFIG is not something that the average user even knows about" Microsoft provides lots of information to user about MSConfig: http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?form=MSHOME&mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&q=msconfig "not as a long-term solution for anything" Actually, I think you mis spoke becuase it is logically untrue. "because of the potential for malware, but also for the potential for software conflicts" This is Earth to Noel: Concerns like these are the reason why there should be a "remove" button in the MSConfig panel and why KB's telling users they can select "Normal Startup" can be hazardous.db
