MSDTC Between 64-Bit Windows 7 and 32-Bit Windows Server 2003
While using the DTCPING.exe tool I can get a successful ping when initiated from my Windows 7 machine to the Windows Server 2003 machine. When going from the Windows Server 2003 machine to the Windows 7 machine I get the following error: Problem:fail to invoke remote RPC method Error(0x5) at dtcping.cpp @303 -->RPC pinging exception -->5(Access is denied.) RPC test failed Upon googling this error all that I could find was that this should only happen if using Windows XP or Vista, neither of which is the case. I also tried setting the RestrictRemoteClients key on both the Windows Server 2003 machine and Windows 7 machine. I can ping by netbios name in both directions successfully. Why can't I get DTC working between these two machines? Thank you in advance for any help!jfkrueger

Hi, I suggest adding the following two registry. You have added one already. Before modifying the registry, please back it up first. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\RPC "RestrictRemoteClients"=dword:00000000 "EnableAuthEpResolution"=dword:00000000 If any Security Software or firewall is running, temporary disable it. If the issue persists, please modify the following group policy on Windows 7. Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Network security: LAN Manager authentication level Please change to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".
