Hi, First try to a full scan again. If no virus found this time, it should be removed. Meanwhile, for MSE related issue, we can contact the product support: http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ For security related issue, Microsoft PCSafety is also an option: http://www.microsoft.com/protect/

Hello all, as i mentioned earlier the MSE AV detected a trojan virus a while ago,and it remained there in the history for a long time, and today i cliked to check if it was still there but not anymore, could that be a bad signal? or it just happened after the latest version update? any help is greatly appreaciated!! RR Going by the MPSystemEvents.txt log it appears that the History list is periodically 'cleaned up'. As to why this was done and if MSE still does it ... let's find out. MPSystemEvents.txt is created when one runs the command to gather MSE's logs into the MPSupportFiles.cab. Iin Vista, and I suspect, Windows 7, too, the commands must be run from an Elevated Command Prompt cd %programfiles%\Microsoft Security Essentials mpcmdrun -getfiles On 10/12/2009 the above log contains this: ************************************************************* 10/12/2009 08:58:13 AM Microsoft Antimalware Information 1013 VistaVictim-PC Microsoft Antimalware has removed history of spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Time: 9/12/ 2009 8:58:12 AM User: NT Authority\System ************************************************************** There's a similar entry for 10/9 which contains the incorrect Time: as it also shows a month prior to the entries actual date. The system's time and date are correct so the entry reflects a bug or something that we're not privy to. There are no further entries in the MPSystemEvents.txt after 10/12. I'll run the command to gather the logs into a new MPSupportFiles.cab and see if that specific entry shows up. It's still showing and the Time: showing is still one month off, just as it shows in the 10/12 entry. ************************************************************* 10/26/2009 07:15:20 AM Microsoft Antimalware Information 1013 VistaVictim-PC Microsoft Antimalware has removed history of spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Time: 9/26/ 2009 7:15:19 AM User: NT Authority\System ************************************************************** If you'd care to pursue this apparent bug suggest you post to the MSE Scanning, Detecting, and Removing Threats forum MowGreen MVP Data Center Management - Update Services Consumer Security

Wow this post was just in time, some weirdest thing just happened an hour ago, suddenly a folder with lock icon showed on the C:\ then i looked for the security settings for that folder and it wouldnt show anything and the owner status was unknown, then i checked MSE to see if anything was going on,i realized that in the system tray MSE iconwasnt there, then i tried to double click on the MSE icon didnt open as well!!!!tried to uinstall ,no success couldnt uninstall and a small window would pop up saying something was missing and it was not possible to perform the installation which means uninstallation...then i tried to restore from the cd boot,no point would restore and all of them failed, then i clicked to show other points and clicked on the date of 24th and tried to restore and by looking at the HD activity i noticed it was restoring but at the end it said couldnt finish restoring some files....then what i did is even thoughit was saying the restorecouldnt complete i remember once when it happened and there was nothing to do anymore i just restarted in safe mode then the small windows would show the restore was successfully done and thats what happened!!!!btw i tried the backup image no success ,it says the hardware is diferent from the needed..something like that(sorry bout thelimited english cuz im tired today)summarizing this i downloaded the final version and installed again ,after uninstalling the old one of course, and now thanks for the command lines cuz next time i'll have the diagnostic need in case i get infected again(which i hardly believe on that)and suddenly the history disappears...Thanks to all for ur efforts really appreciate that!!kind regards,RR

You're mowst welcome. FWIW, the MSE icon has disappeared from the Task Bar on my system today, too. IMHO, this product is still a beta and one should never entrust the security of your main, everyday system to a beta product.MowGreen MVP Data Center Management - Update Services Consumer Security

Hello MowGreen,i believe that this issue happened due to the fact that the first version installed ,wasnt the final one(beta), so my guess is that an update might've triggered that due to some signature or incompatible file or it could be even a "legal" malware injected...anyways i much trust in MSE and think with the final version i should be all set :DThanks for ur input,RR
