Massive Amounts of Network Traffic / Packets
I purchased a new Dell XPS 17 and have previously been a long time user of XP. One big reason I am already not a fan of Windows 7 is because while some things have improved other things have gotten worse. By far this is the worst problem. In XP my Duration online can be 1-2 days and would barely hit a million or a million and a half of packets for sent and outgoing individually. With the Same exact setup in Win7 what takes days in XP I experience in about 1 Hour in Win7!! As of right now I have over 19million outgoing packets! Similar for Received. What gives?? By the way I have an Intel 1000BGN Internal Adapter but I have it disabled and am using an Alfa AWUS036h b/g adapter. My router is a Netgear N300 WNR2000v2. I am experiencing very low speeds 1-5.5 and occasionally a stable 11mbps. I firmly believe this network traffic is causing both my low speeds and my random and frequent limited access / disconnections. Please advise!

I have opened and looked @ Resource Monitor available with Windows 7 and on the network tab I saw many instances of PMB.exe hogging and leeching the bandwidth (it is basically a bittorrent client that runs in the background 24/7) which apparently is something called Pando Media Booster that came with an mmorpg game called APB that was installed on the system by someone and allowed past MSE and Windows firewall. I uninstalled Pando, APB, and another app called GamersFirst Live. This has had a considerable effect on network performance now that all this malware is gone. I've also uninstalled a few junk toolbars (anyone attempting to duplicate this please be 100% sure about what you are uninstalling before you do it or you will have a headache getting it back.) There still seems to be something hogging the bandwidth and the rate increase is very high. I do not see anything else that explains it. I have disabled RDC in add/remove program features. And have also manually disabled Auto-Tuning in netshell. There wasn't an immediate improvement as I think this affects local network traffic speed more than internet. I have yet to reboot following the changes and will report if it made a difference. Adapter setting are set to automatically obtain ip address and dns server and there is no proxy set in internet options, it is automatic as well. Still the internet is very slow and sometimes I am unable to even perform a speedtest at Speedtest .com. ISP is Comcast, In Netgear, WPA2-[AES] is being used, MTU is 1500, NAT Filtering is open not secured, and 300mbps max mode is set along with being on channel 1 which almost no one else shares. Please advise. I am going to attempt a TCP/IP reset in CMD.

Hi, According the issue, you may perform a Clean Boot to check whether this problem is caused by third party software: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Note: Clean Boot is a step of troubleshooting, we can go back to normal by running MSCONIFG. In case, this problem disappear in Clean Boot environment, you may use the method in this KB to ensure the specific application. If the issue persists, I recommend that you may use Resource Monitor to check the current network usage: 1. Click Start button, move to All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools, click Resource Monitor. 2. Chose Network tag in Resource Monitor. 3. You may check the Network Activity in Process with Network Activity box. Please check it and tell me the result. Also, I suggest that you may try to capture network package on client to get some detail information from the result. 1) Download NetMon3.4 from the following website and install it on the computer http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=983b941d-06cb-4658-b7f6-3088333d062f 2) Launch NetMon3.4 on the both client and the server. 3) In the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4 window, click Create a new capture tab … 4) In the new tab, select all the Network Adapters in the Select Networks window. 5) Then, switch to Network Monitor, press F5 to start NetMon. 6) Run Windows 7 as usual for a few minutes. 7) Go back to the NetMon window and press F7 to stop the NetMon. 8) Press Ctrl+S to save the Netmon file named test. 9) Upload the files via SkyDrive ,and post a link here. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Thank you for your post. Is it necessary to get Netmon if I have resource monitor or wireshark? Which download link should I choose iax64.exe or x64.exe? What is the difference between Netmon and Portmon which another person recommended for me to download? I have found something that has helped a lot. After uninstalling Punkbuster the service was still running regularly and after disabling it everything seems to be twice as fast. I still wanna be sure nothing is holding me back and will continue troubleshooting.
