Maximum size limit for offline files cache
Is there a practical size limit for offline files in Win7? I have about 50GB synched that ran OK in XP, but appears to slow Windows 7 down on a Dell M2400 notebook with a 500Gb HDD. While connected to my home office Network (Server 2008) with offline files enabled and working, the CPU usage would often be >95% and opening, saving and closing files was very slow. With offline files disabled, file operations happen at "normal" speed and the CPU usage is rearely above 50%, most often <20%. Any comments would be appreciated

Hi, You can try to configure “Default cache size” and “Limit disk space used by offline files” in Group Policy Editor: 1 Click “Start” 2 Input “gpedit.msc” in search box and press Enter 3 Go to Local Computer Policy---Computer Configuration---Administrative Templates---Network---Offline Files 4 Configure “Default cache size” and “Limit disk space used by offline files” Hope it helps. Leo, My concern was not to limit the size of the CSC, but to find out if there was a practical limit to how big it can be before it starts slowing down my computer. If I make the CSC smaller than my files that I want to synchronise, then I expect that I will not be able to synchronise all the files. In my case, when I'm connected to the server, I have to keep the off line files service turned off or my computer CPU usage goes to 100% all the time and slows the computer down. I only start the service when I want to synchronise. Currently, I am away from my office server and am working in offline mode and the CPU usage is only 8% as I type this. If I connect to the server and with offline files enabled, the CPU usage will be constantly over 50% and often over 95% if not 100%. Other than stopping the offline files service, is there anything else I can do to prevent my CPU usage being so high when the service is enabled? Regards, Joe Luxford

Hi Joe, You can try to login with Clean Boot to check if the same issue occurs. Also go to Task Manager to verify which program occupied CPU too much.
