On Windows 8 Pro, whenever I open metro apps (eg. Games, Music, Store), the big app logo comes up on-screen, but the app won't open. Why is this?
Did you run upgrade or clean install?
Did you use any download manager?
Did you use any DVD burner software?
Update Windows and visit ASUS website and install all the latest drivers (if any).
Same Problem.
Classic Windows.
Try to disable firewall and antivirus program for test. And disable UAC also.
Furthermore, removed this policy from Group Policy:
Computer Config\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\
These were called DCOM: Machine Access Restrictions in Security Descriptor Definition Language (SDDL) syntax and DCOM: Machine Launch Restrictions in Security Descriptor Definition Language (SDDL) syntax
and also removed the whole registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\dcom.

Hi,
This is a new laptop, installed with 7 and came with 8 disks. I've done a clean install of 8 and then downloaded and installed 8.1. I can't remember if I tried them with just 8. I don't think so.
The Apps work live on the desktop but I get the same response as above. I'm not getting the black cross errors that I've seen mentioned elsewhere. The Event viewer reports "server App.wwa did not register with DCOM within the required timeout."
Firewall off. No AV installed yet. UAC off.
The 2 DCOM policies are set as 'blank'
The registry key doesn't exist. No DCOM under Windows NT.
Any other ideas please? Thanks
UPDATE.
Just tried the registry merge on the 'Metro apps won't start under consumer preview of Windows 8' thread. Didn't work.
