Move User Profiles after creating new partition
I created a separate partition for Users on a new PC running Windows 7. However there were two accounts which already existed on the primary partition, and those accounts still have their original directories on "C:\Users". The security settings remain on the original partition, leaving the new Users partition unsecured. Should I use robocopy to move the remaining folders and files along with all the security settings to the new partition? What would be the correct syntax? What registry setting will I need to edit? After I partitioned I edited the registry to have the the home drive and users point to the new partition. I've successfully created new accounts with the new setting, and confirmed that the account profile directory is protected. Thanks, Chuck

Hi, How do you set the Users profile to another partition? Did you use the methods in the following link. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973289 If so, you may try to move the original Users directory to the new location. But there also are several considerations when you migrate the profile successfully. Please refer to the following link. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929831 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff715936(WS.10).aspx http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/changing-the-path-location-of-user-profiles-in/b71af71f-6db9-4240-ad1e-f2abbc039edc If you already installed the Windows 7, I do not recommend to perform this action, it would be on your own risk, at Microsoft we do not recommend. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
