Multiprocessing monitoring with Windows 8.1 Resource Monitor

Hi,

CPU status shows "Parked" with some cores although one can see activity in those cores.

Why ?

With Windows 7.1

a) all CPU cores were shown active all the time when running software using multiprocessing

b) CPU / multicore diagnostics with Logitech keyboard display matched to that of Windows 7.1

What are alternative tools to analyze multiprocessing software under Windows 8.1 ?

you can use performance monitoring tool in this. Right click on my computer --> Manager --> Performance.

That's the one I used.

Its GUI is similar to that of Vista and Windows 7.1

The difference is how Windows 8.1 keeps several CPU cored "parked" = idle !

Windows 7.1 and Linux are capable to use all available CPU cores when running the same apps!

Using resource monitor, i can see activity of both the cores in my dual core processor. Can you post a screenshot from resource monitor, how this looks like ?

What Power Plan have you selected (Power Options applet of the control panel)?

Some experimentation in the advanced power settings may be in order.

Thanks !

Is there API to tune/adjust/force/take all CPU-cores into use for

a) processes

b) thread

from

c) Python

d) C++

Note: Windows 7.1 allowed all CPU cores to be used automatically which speeds multiprocessing

I seem to be able to busy all my logical processors (physical cores + hyperthreading) with software that's designed to multi-thread.  Graphics software (e.g., Photoshop) can be used to push the system.

Could you please be a bit more specific about exactly how you're measuring CPU usage (maybe show a screen grab).  I'll try to measure the exact same things.
