The password for the Recovery Console is the one for the built-in Administrator, not your regular daily account's password. If you never set a password for the built-in Administrator, leave it blank (just press Enter).Set the BIOS to boot from the CD first. When you first start the computer you will see a message that says something like "Press F2 to enter Setup". Many computers also will say something like "Press F12 for a temporary boot menu". If you have that option, take it. Insert your XP installation CD and, instead of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password requested is blank or, if you assigned a password to the built-in Administrator, enter that. Assuming your optical drive is D:\, type:COPY D:\i386\ntldr C:\ [enter]COPY D:\i386\ntdetect.com C:\ [enter] [a file that may also be missing] then rebuild the boot configuration boot.ini file by typing:Attrib -H -R -S C:\boot.ini [enter] [if not found skip the next line]DEL C:\boot.ini [enter]BootCfg /Rebuild [enter] MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
