Need help cleaning system registry after virus infection
Original title: Is there a way to change the registry permissions or do I have to burn a CD with defender on it to fix the PC?Hi- Have contracted a Jump/redirect virus and/or what looks like a conflicker. Awhile ago all my system resore points were deleted. There is a Registry permission problem that will not let me install Defender or Security Essentials. "One Care" ran but did not resolve the problem. Here are two files that have had permissions changed and could be the cause of the Defender and Security Essentials download problems:Ran Symantec W32.Downadup Removal Tool 1.1.0.2ERROR: Can't change ACL/permissions for file C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CardSpace\CardSpaceSP2.db; file not scannedERROR: Can't change ACL/permissions for file C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CardSpace\CardSpaceSP2.db.shadow; file not scannedW32.Downadup has not been found on your computer.TIA, hondobud
