Network Drive Problem
I have a small home network with 4 computers. Everythings been working fine for years with no problems. Recently I upgraded one of the desktops. I replaced MOBO, processor, graphics card, hard drives, and power supply (basically I kept the case, 2 DVD drives, and the 3.5 drive). In the upgrade I replaced a 40gb and a 160gb IDE HDD with one 500gb ATA HDD. Now that all is said and done I cant access the 500gb HDD from any other computer over the network. When I explore my network I can see the computer and even see the drive but if I try to access it I get a message that says The drive is not accessible or I may not have permission. Ive set the 3.5 drive as a shared drive and I can assess it fine over the network so Im not thinking its a network setup issue. I can ping between computers just fine. Ive set and reset the shared options several times and tried everything else I know to no avail. Not sure if it makes any difference but I did clone my old OS drive rather than re-installing all software. If anyone has a clue Id sure appreciate it. Jeff

Hi Jeff, Thank you for the post. Please understand that operating system is closely related to hardware. Using clone tool to move system between computers with different hardware could reduce the stability, reliability and performance of the system, and possibly will cause unexpected behavior. This procedure is not recommended by Microsoft and therefore is not supported. As a result, I'd like to suggest installing a new system on this computer. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. In addition, Ive included the article related to file sharing on Windows Vista for your reference: File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx Hope it helps. Have a nice day. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support
