I am running Vista Ultimate. Recently it stopped reconnecting to network drives. I went to theSystem control panel to verify my workgroup settings, and clicked on Change settings. The "Network ID" button is grayed out! My account has admin privileges, so that's not the problem. If I go to Computer Name Changes, the bottom of the dialog box (Domain and Workgroup)is grayed out. The network map shows the other computers, but I can't open them, and they don't show up under "Network" in Windows Explorer. Is there some way to reinstate workgroup functionality??

A bit more research. During startup. a bunch of errors, starting with: The bowser service failed to start due to the following error: bowser is not a valid Win32 application. So do I have a corrupted module? or is Bowser really my neighbor's dog???

try and repair your network connections as this could be the cause.It may be either a faulty connection or it needs to be reconfigured in some way.Had a similar issue today as well and that cured it

I treied deleting and recreating connections, reconfiguring, etc. I finally fixed it by copying over Windows/System32/drivers/bowser.sys from another machine. I guess it really was corrupted! For me the moral of the story is don't assume it's working as designed, get to know your event logs: when something is busted it's apt to show up there first.
