Network List Manager creates unauthenticated domain network
Greetings, I'm running Vista Business on an Active Directory Domain. The Network List Manager service has created a second network for the domain I connect to instead of using the one which was setup with the OS install. This becomes a problem since the "Domain Type" property of the network is set to NLM_DOMAIN_TYPE_DOMAIN_NETWORK instead of NLM_DOMAIN_TYPE_DOMAIN_AUTHENTICATED. This causes the network to appear unauthenticated and the machine cannot be browsed via SMB. I cannot find any information in the MSDN docs (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa370803(VS.85).aspx) about the algorithm or heuristics used to create new networks and assign them properties, and so it becomes quite difficult to diagnose this. What causes this? How can I change the "Domain Type" ofthe newly created network, or how can I get NLA or NLM to pick the correct one? Thanks!

Greetings, Joson, Thanks for the reply. Please note that I'm not attempting to do programming involving the Network List Manager. I am trying to diagnose a network problem in Vista. However, I am using the provided API to troubleshoot, since it gives much more detailed information about the state of the problem. Perhaps restating my problem would help.I have a domain network. My Vista x64 Business installation has a network location associated with this domain. However, it appears that a second, non-domain network location was created for this domain network, but is listed as "Unauthenticated." Vista seems to prefer this network location when I connect, and now file sharing is not working. The "Unauthenticated" state and the desired "Domain" state correspond to values in the Network List ManagerAPI, which I used to browse the network locations, and which I described in my first posting. My questions are: why does a new, unauthenticated network get created, and how to I get Vista to choose the correct, domain network location?
