Network indicator shows internet access, no local
My network indicator is showing internet access but no mention of local. I has also changed icon as well, previously had white bars indicating strength, now all the bars are grey with an orange star. I have no problems accessing the internet and I can see other pc's on my network, although still unable to connect to a printer attached to an XP pc. Also I am unable to get network discovery to stay set as on, I click it to on, click save, go back in again and it is showing as off again, could these all be connected?

Hi, In Windows 7 RC, the description of access types is changed. A computer that is connected to Internet via a local network will have Internet Access type. This is a normal behavior. The issue related to the printer should be caused by incompatible drivers. I suggest that you try to download the latest Windows Vista driver from the manufacturers website and install, then follow the steps below to install the shared printer on Windows 7 RC. 1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Printers.2. On Keyboard press Alt, then click File->Run as administrator->Add Printer. When UAC window pops up, click Continue to go on. 3. Select "Add a local printer". 4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port. 5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format. \\[IP address of the host computer]\[The Share Name of the printer] Then click Next. 6. Follow the instruction to finish the installation. During installing, choose the correct driver in the driver list. Regarding the Network and Discovery issue, it can be caused by several reasons. Is your computer in a domain? You may capture screenshots and submit them in the SkyDrive of your Live Space. Arthur Xie - MSFT
