Network share slow on mutiple slow file writes and multiple access
I have a windows 7 machine with multiple network shares. Everything was fine until recently whenever I attempt to write many small files to the shares from a remote machine it is horribly slow. Transfering a single large file is perfectly quick and fine. Reading multiple small files from the share to the remote machine is fine as well. Took a quick look at a packet capture and there seems to be 2-3 seconds of latency between SMB requests and responses. So it seems like the remote machine writes a file then has to wait several seconds before it can write the next file. Any ideas? I did have an eventid 2017 problem a few weeks ago and I believe I changed these registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters\size HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache but I reverted them to the original values with no effect.

Hi, How do you connect the remote machine? Via a VPN network? Can you tell me which kind of files encounter this issue, document or other file? At this stage, I suggest you try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Temporarily turn off firewall on the machine. 2. Perform a Clean Boot to check the result. 3. Compress the file via Winzip or WinRAR and then transfer the data for a test. If the issue persists, please collect the following log file for research. Collect the Netmon trace ========================= a. Download NetMon3.3 from the following website and install it on the computer http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=983b941d-06cb-4658-b7f6-3088333d062f b. Launch NetMon3.3. c. In the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3 window, click Create a new capture tab … d. In the new tab, select all the Network Adapters in the Select Networks window. e. Then, switch to Network Monitor, press F5 to start NetMon. f. Try to transfer the data again. When it completes, go to step 7. g. Go back to the NetMon window and press F7 to stop the NetMon. h. Press Ctrl+S to save the Netmon file named test. Then please upload to SkyDrive (www.skydrive.live.com ) and share the link to me. Thanks, Novak
