Networked XP PCs cannot access Win 7 PC
I have 3 other XP PCs connected to the same router of the Win 7 PC. The Win 7 PC can see all the files and drives declared shared from the other PCs. But no PC can see the Win7 drives and files...The problem has to be with Win 7 ...isthere an option I missed in Win7? Thanks.

If "no", you have to setup a home (or other) network in Win 7. Otherwise Win 7 can see other PC's if they have Win 7.

Well, I have configured everything I can find. Vista has no problem connecting to the Win7 machines, however none of the XP machines can connect. I have run through the home network configuration, and I even turned off password protected sharing, still no joy.MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Is your Windows 7 machine in the same group as your Windows XP machines? Is your Windows 7 firewall on?

Just setup inwin7 a workgroup with the same name as on the other computers. InXP these are most likely called "MSHOME" or "WORKGROUP". In win7 this standard name of a workgroup is not installed so you have to ad this manually.

I have all the machines in the the workgroup named WORKGROUP. Each machine has an account that matches the name/password of the connecting account. I turned off password protected sharing. I even disabled the Win7 firewall. None of this changes the symptoms.MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Did you reboot all machines after joining them to WORKGROUP?

I have the same problem as John Will. On my win7 the computer is listed as "WORKGROUP" as is the XP computer. I was able to see the Home Group and drives C and D but get the message "access denied" when I try to open either drive. I am administrator on both computers. Do I have to have the same user name in both computers? Thanks.

Well, I think my problem may have been something totally different. I just had Win7 go totally in the tank and wouldn't let me access drive C: at all, so I restored from last week's backup and now sharing from XP works fine. I didn't notice other things were going south, until I tried to go to Administrative Tools and was refused! Then I found out I could run applications, but not access drive C: using explorer at all! charpar , I'd recommend you turn off password protected sharing and see if that helps. I also have matching accounts on all the machines, which may also be another factor. In any case, my problem is resolved as of now.MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

MVP - Windows Desktop Experience JohnWill, Thanks for the response and I'm glad your problem is solved. I do not believe I have password protected sharing on but will investigate further. I did have a user with a different name on the xp but added that name as a user to win7. That did not help. Now I am going to try having just one user on each machine both with the same name. Thanks for the help.
