Networking problems
My computer is hooked up to our router with an Ethernet cable. I am running Vista Home Premium SP 2 64bit OS. Now I have a proper IP and connection to the internet but Vista can not identify my network. The computer is telling me I am not connected to the internet but yet it still is connected. If I unplug the cable from the computer and plug it back in vista brings up the connection for about 2 seconds. Then it disappears and says there are no networks. While the internet continues to work. I have tried uninstalling the ethernet card, running safe mode to check if it was a program or OS, changed the windows firewall, changed some options in services. I couldn't get network discovery to turn on until the firewall was changed. I have lost all file sharing off the computer. I would just use System restore but it doesn't go back to last week. any ideas?
