I did an image recovery and when I restarted I was expecting when I drag from any browser's location bar I got a .html or .htm link and not the hidden url link. What I am getting now is a visible xxx.url and in the registry the:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut]
"NeverShowExt"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\InternetShortcut]
"NeverShowExt"
are both present. In windows seven all I had to do is was associate a different browser to default and then default back to firefox and the .url was hidden again. I can hide this suffix using a program called 'Types' but I would like to do this without an external program. Types is also showing that there is an .url association with IE as is the association in the 'Default Programs > Set Associations' IE icon. The .url in the default program isn't allowing itself to be unchecked all though double clicking an url desktop shortcut will open in Firefox. How do I make Firefox associate the url instead of IE or at least how do I hide the visible url suffix?
