New Windows 7 Laptop will cannot access internet on existing Home Wireless Network
I got a new MSI Laptop from Tiger Direct with Windows 7 pre-installed. I turned on the Wireless card for the laptop and it immediately recognized all of the local wireless networks in my area including my existing Home Wireless Network. My network is set up with WEP. I attempted to connect to my network, added the security information and the computer connected. When I attempt to open IE to browse the internet, I get a error message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". In the Network and Sharing Center, the basic network inforamtion shows the computer, the home network and the Internet, However I cannot get a web page to display. I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router with the latest Firmware. I have restarted the entire network from the cable modem up to the router. My existing XP Home 2002, XP Professional SP3 laptops still connect and work just fine. Plus a family member got a new MacBook Air that was able to connect just fine by entering the WEP security information. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Read this article (lengthy but its broken down for troubleshooting) but the main part that could do it for you - temporarily disable windows 7 firewall (make sure there are NO other firewalls installed or security suites) and try it again article is here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956196 MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. In addition, please connect Internet via wired cable instead for a test. Can the laptop access Internet now? Also, I suggest you move the laptop to another Wireless network and check whether it can obtain IP address and access websites normally. If the issue persists, please post the IP address on the laptop for research. Thanks,Novak

Thanks for all replies. It turns out that the Norton that was delivered was blocking the internet access. When the computer would start up, Norton would display, giving me the option of starting service or "close without starting". I had to activate the Norton service in order for the internet to work. Thanks again all. Bob
