Newly added smart switch causing IP address problems
Yep. That was the problem. I replaced my router with the switch, only to find out that a switch works only in conjunction WITH a router. Once I added my router to the configuration, everything worked beautifully. Now my system is: Modem > Router > Switch > Devices Works like a charm.

I have a small home setup. I recently upgraded my ancient modem and router to the latest and fastest modem and ethernet switch. Now there is a problem accessing the internet from multiple devices. My setup is: Modem > Smart Ethernet Switch > Windows 7 Computer > MAC Computer (OS X) > Plasma TV (internet ready) > Apple TV 1 > Apple TV 2 > Wii 1 > Wii 2 Currently, when I turn on computer (A), it gets internet. But computer (B) cannot. Likewise, if I turn on computer (B) first, it gets internet. But computer (A) cannot. And at this time, all other devices cannot get internet at all, no matter what is on or off. I have verified that all 7 devices are set to acquire the IP address automatically. When running a connection test on my TV, it fails at the point of "acquiring IP address from router."

To start with you will have to refer to the documentation for your new hardware. This is not a Windows 7 problem since Windows 7 does not manage modems and switches; that is the function of the individual setting the hardware up! Where is your router in this new configuration? Normally modems only have one IP address which is for your main connection to the ISP. Switches do not assign any IP addresses since all they do is handle trafficPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
