Nic falls to 10Mbps
I have a Dell with Broadcom 1Gbps Nic win 7 64 bit. I just noticed that when I open outlook 2010 64bit in cached mode, my nic resets itself to 10Mbps In the event log there is an informational event 7 entry source k57nd60a stating that the nic has been set to 10Mbps full duplex. I updated all drivers from windows update. Just curious if anyone has seen this before? Regards Craig Craig

I have seen this with certain routers with Dell GigE NICs. You may have to change the NIC setting from Auto to the highest speed your router supports. In addition, check to make sure the switch port has not be configured to that setting. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Thanks for the replys. I didnt clearly state that the Nic starts out at 1Gbps and falls to 10Mbps. I am trying a different switch port to see if that has any effect. thanks Craig Craig

An autonegotiate/autsense issue would cause this behavior to occur. If the NIC is going from 1Gbps to 10Mbps, that would indicate to me that your Windows NIC is set to "Auto". The switch port may be set to a fixed setting. If this is a managed switch, take a look at the port stats and see if there are FCS errors. If all looks good, make sure you have the latest NIC driver installed, supplied by the vendor. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.
