No Administrator rights

Hello!

There's a laptop with Win8.1 64bit. There was just one user which was the Administrator. Due to the fact that the person using it had no clue what is he installing or opening the administrator rights were denied by changing the account type to a standard user using Win+R "control userpasswords2".

Now there is no Administrator and its not possible to install any software or create another user or anything.

I have tried the different options without any success described here: eightforums.com/tutorials/9650-built-administrator-account-enable-disable-windows-8-a.html

Any suggestions?

There are various tools out there that can bind to, reset the pwd, and change the group ownership of local accounts.

I suggest doing a google search for freeware password re-setting tools.

This problem is fairly easy to get around.

Try adding an administrator account from the elevated command prompt, to do this:

1. Search for CMD

2. Right-click the command prompt and select run as administrator

3. To add a user type the following: net localgroup administrators admin /add

You can replace the "admin" name with any name you'd like, but this should add a user with administrator privileges.

Thank You for the effort.

However

I can not run the CMD as administrator, since the only account there is has no administrator rights.

When i try to do this - it asks to insert the administrators password, but hey - there is no window where to enter that. And what is funny - there is no administrator AND logically - there is no password for the non-existing administrator.

So that is not an option.

What I don't understand is - how could I (the only user with the admin rights) change myself to a simple User leaving the system without any administrator.

I have solved this using some manual on the internet, using the Win 8.1 installation dvd.

Here it is: www.   eightforums.com/user-accounts-family-safety/47747-deleted-admin-account-win-8-1-update-how-restore.html

I hope it helps others.

I would agree that it would help users if Microsoft would add a warning feature that would ask for verification if you are demoting or deleting the only account with administrator privileges. Or maybe flat our deny that action until another account has been given the privilege.  Glad you got it sorted out, please mark your post as the answer so others know which is the best course of action.

Thanks, You did not help at all.

I did help you but you didn't want to listen, and I can't promote password unlocking software on here.

There are lots of tools out there that could have helped you.

All it takes is a bit of investigation.

I did not use any 3d party tools to solve the problem, i tried though. Failed.

And thank You bothering reading my thread anyway.

Cheers.
