No Browser sound but system sounds work fine in windows 7
Hi Niki, Thanks for the reply. The device is the onboard sound, Realtek High Definition Audio with external speakers plugged in. I've tried a standalone USB sound device as well with the same results. The registry key I checked is [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]. The volume mixer does nothing to solve the problem. The msacm32.drv is present in the C:\Windows\system32 folder with a file date of 7/13/2009. Play sounds in webpages is enabled. Still no web sound in any browsers. Best Regards, -= Doug =-

Problem solved! I compared installed codec's between two computers I have, same OS and brand name. One's sound works great the other does not. Codec's were NOT the same. I installed "k-lite-codec-pack". know everything works fine. Very little about codec's from Microsoft though.

I have no audio from any of the three browsers I have installed in Windows 7. i.e. flash videos on YouTube, MIDI or MP3 files on WebPages. I've built WebPages that play the sounds fine from my hard drive but not from the server that I upload them to with any of my browsers. All files on the hard drive and system sounds play fine including Flash files. All drivers and program updates are current. Event logs, control panel etc. don't show any problems. this is a new HP Pavilion, HPE 500Y with Windows 7 Home pre-installed. The browser audio never worked out of the box. I upgraded to Windows Professional. It still wouldn't work. I installed "Windows XP mode Windows Virtual PC". In XP mode the browser audio works fine in all browsers. (This is not a Dual boot system) In XP mode all system sounds and sound files on the hard drive including flash files work fine as well. This tells me that this is a windows issue and not a third party program or hardware issue. I've seen many complaints about this on the web but very few solutions beyond the obvious to folks that know computers and none that have worked for me. Having said that, I check for corrupt or missing system files by running sfc /scannow from the command prompt and found nothing wrong. I checked the registry and found nothing as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Which device is used to play the audio? The built-in Speakers or Headphones. Which registry did you check? When playing the audio in Brower, click the sound icon in the system tray, select Mixer to open Volume Mixer, scroll up the sound in the Browser column. If the issue persists, try the following suggestions. 1. Check if the file msacm32.drv is present in the C:\Windows\system32 folder. 2. Internet Option -> Advanced tab -> Scroll down to the "Multimedia" sub-heading -> verify Play sounds in webpages is enabled.
