No Insert a Smart Card Prompt
Hi,
I have a Gemalto .NET Smart Card that I have issued using FIM... Windows 7 sees the reader and the card, but the build of Win 7 at my company doesn't have the "insert a smart card" prompt at logon, nor at the "run as a different user" dialog.
We have checked all the documented settings that could be in a GPO specifically around Smart Cards and none or even configured. The user is not set to require a smart card for logon, but is enabled for logon.
Something has been configured to disallow this (probably inadvertently), and the desktop guys have no clue.
A Google search has discovered nothing.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi,
The logon screen is no longer displayed automatically when a smart card is inserted in Windows 7. Users are normally required to press CTRL+ALT+DEL to start the logon
process.
How Smart Card Logon Works in Windows
Also, if you want to specify the smart card as the logon method, you could configure policy: "Interactive logon: Require smart card" setting on the local computer:
1.
Open the appropriate policy object, expand Computer Configuration, expand Windows Settings, and then expand Security Settings.
2.
Expand Local Policies, and then click Security Options.
3.
In the right pane, double-click Interactive logon: Require smart card.
