No Internet access after copying user files over.
I created a new user account and copied over all the files including document and settings from an old user account. Before I did that I unhid all the hidden files and system files. What I had expected was the new user account should behave exactly like the old user account seamlessly apart from the difference of the user account names. However, having done this I couldn't get on to the Internet from the new user account even I could ping every Internet web site I tried. Eventually, I have to create another new user account and copy only the document over and I have to manually re-do all the personal settings. So problems had gone. However I would like to know if it is a problem to copy personal settings. What is the most efficient and effective way to transfer personal account from one to another?1 person got this answerI do too

Hi,Did you remove the following files from the new account?Ntuser.dat Ntuser.dat.log Ntuser.ini http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151/en-gbThe above link shows how to copy a profile, however as far as the most efficient way of copying, this would depend on what you want, ie some settings can be set for all users in local computer policies etc. If however you want documents available to all users, use an all "users share" with permissions to prevent some accounts changing files. This may or may not apply to what you want to achieve. Please confirm what data/folders/personal settings etc you would like to duplicate to new user accounts, and state whether is this once at creation, or on an ongoing basis.Lastly are you using XP Home or Professional?

I didn't remove any file at the new account. I wasn't supposed to according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151/en-gb, was I?I think that the problem was I copied the three forbidden Ntuser files as well. The purpose of this exercise was changing the account name of the user to be identical to the rest of the workgroup network in order to enable seamless local network access. So I wanted everything transferred over, shortcuts, files, settings and so on.It was an XP home. Would that make any difference? Certainly I don't have access to gpedit.msc. I would have to go straight to the registry for that purpose.
