No LAN icon in my NETWORK PLACES.
I am a networking student and I am having trouble with one of my workstations. I just set up a small network and everthing was fine. So I started over for practice. I reloaded everything and installed all my hardware. However this time around, my workstation running XP will not recognize a LAN, or at least there is no LAN icon in my network places. I was going to manually assign my Subnet IP to this machine but can't. Started with the integrated pro/100 nic, when that didnt work, I plugged in a pro/1000 nic to one of my pci slots... installed the drivers... no lan. Swapped nics again, in yet another port, nothing. Swapped out another nic and my 3rd PCI slot. My dev. manager sees the NIC, and tells me its installed with drivers and everything.. NO LAN. Its a real head scratcher. I am beginning to think its not the card or slots, but something with the OS. Tried so many settings.. I think I could subnet thru command line, but I really don't know the steps. Nothing a reload won't fix I suppose, but I hate to do it if I don't have to. Any ideas? Thank you for your time and consideration.3 people need an answerI do too
