No connections available
I have a question concerning a PC that dualboots between Windows 7 home premium 32-bit and Ubuntu 10.04, also 32-bit. The computer has a giga-byte g41 mobo with a realtek 8111 gigabit nic on-board. Whenever I boot into Windows, I do not have a network connection. This was working fine up to about two months ago. Nothing has changed in the computer, except for possibly some windows updates. The computer with same nic and network cable work flawlessly in Ubuntu. When in Windows, I have tried an ipconfig /all from command prompt, and receive the message that the media state is disconnected. I have also completely uninstalled the stock network driver, and updated it with the latest driver from Realtek. Does anyone have any suggestions as to fixing this? I would definitely appreciate any suggestions.

Is there any exclamation mark in device manager>network adapter? I suggest you to install the lan drivers from the drivers CD that comes with the motherboard or download the driver from it's manufacturer website

Actually, there is no exclamation point in device manager, and I have tried both reinstalling the lan driver on the giga-byte CD, then downloading from the giga-byte web site and finally the latest actual driver from realtek. Neither of the three installs have given any resolution to the problem. What makes it even more weird is that the nic card and same two cables I tested, work flawlessly in Ubuntu Linux. Thanks for the suggestion though, any more ideas keep them coming. Guy
