No devices in device and printer windows
Hi all
Strange problem here, I have a user who has windows 7 pro x64. When he goes into the devices and printers there's nothing even if I connected a shared network printer, a network printer locally ( by IP address). I don't have a usb printer available
so I cant test with a that type of printer. If I open mmc and add the print management, I see the installed printers but cannot set the default printer and they seem to disappear randomly. I can open the print properties from an application (Ex. Word,
excel, etc) but cannot see anything in the printers and devices.
Here's a list of tests that I have done:
Restart pc restart print service Connect from a network share from print server Install locally ( by ip address) logged with domain admin account disabled windows firewall Logged with local admin tried to install a printer from other print server made sure the rpc service is running ms fix from http://support.microsoft.com/gp/printing_problems
I've only had this problem with this computer so I'm pretty sure it's not an issue with the server, and I have other users that use windows 7 pro x64 that have not had this problem.
User is local admin of computer.
PC is a desktop optiplex 760
Thanks!

Hi DanV316,
on my ThinkPad i had the same issue with the printers and devices-panel. A reinstallation of windows 7 professional did not match.
After reading thousands of forums and articles about the same problem and testings some sollutions (some crashed my system and i could install windows 7 anew) i found the sollution for this problem.
The first trouble was that the printerqueue startuptype was not automatic. In addition my bluetoothdevice was the disruption. However i deactivated my bluetoothdevice and a reboot later my printers and devices has become more and more symbols.
Please try this and give us a result.

Thanks for the reply Martinwy!
I dont have any bluetooth devices but I checked the service, it's stopped. For the printqueue startup type, I'm guessing you're talking about the print spooler service? That service is running automaticly on startup.
I tried restarting that service, tried enabling bluetooth, and still nothing.

Hi,
This issue can occur by corrupted IE8 DLL files. Please try the suggestions from the following article:
Devices
and Printers Dialog Box Empty
Thanks,
