Hi,
we are running Lync 2010 on several different computers of different models ranging from brand new to 5 years old.
Operating system is XP Professional x86 and Windows 7 Enterprise x64.
The problem is that when a person makes a call with lync either the microphone takes up no sound or no sound comes out of the headphones.
Testcall does not give this problem. Only a true call. In audio properties for Lync you can see that the mic and headphones are working.
This problem only occurs if we have a USB device set as default device in lync. We have a workaround that works and to make it work you choose the built in audio device when in a call and switch back to the headset, then the sound is there for that call.
This problem occued a few weeks ago, reinstalling the computer has no effect. Uninstalling all updates since the problem occured seem to have no effect. Reinstalling lync gives the exact same problem. We tried reinstalling Silverlight, no effect. Adding all cumulative updates for Lync gives no result.
All users on the affected computers will suffer the same problem.
The USB devices we use are certified by microsoft for Lync.
When checking the device in Lync built in test it seems to work fine, the mic is picking up sound as it should and all seems well.
No other applications suffer the same problem on the same computers, this seem to be Lync specific.
