No wireless/wired net access
I've been using wireless internet for months with my new computer which has Windows 7 64-bit. Today I disabled the wireless security for a bit, then tried to enable it, now I can't connect to anything. The problems are: 'The DNS server isn't responding' and 'Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP config'. My wireless icon keeps switching between a yellow exclamation point icon and a circular blue loading icon. It says it's connected but I cannot browse the net, I can access my router information though. My router/modem are definitely on and connected. I've done many power cycles on those and my computer. My modem is Comcast and my router is a Netgear WPN824 V2. The router has the most recent firmware. Here is my ipconfig data: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Hi Your Wire adpter seems to be off. Turn it On connect to the Router via Wire. Redo the Wireless security. Copy the passphrase, switch to the Wireless, and past it in when ask for. . Jack, MVP-Networking. EZLAN.NET

Thanks for your reply. I disabled and reenabled the wired adapter with no result. I figured out a bit more about my problem. It almost has to be a problem stemming from a large electrical storm that happened yesterday, which I'm certain damaged my previous router, which I've since replaced with a new WNR2000. The old router and surge protector is gone, but I still cannot connect via wired or wireless.

Hi, To troubleshoot the issue, please perform the following steps. 1. Bypass the router and connect to DSL Modem directly via wired cable to check the result. Can you access Internet now? If not, the issue may be related to ISP and you need involve ISP for further assistance. Otherwise, it can occur by incorrect router settings or network settings. 2. Upgrade the router’s firmware and reload its settings. 3. Temporarily disable Local Area Connection on the Windows 7 and check whether the machine can access Internet via Wireless network. If the issue persists, please post the latest IPCONFIG result here. Hello, thanks for the replies. I've pretty much figured out it's an isp problem, since I've replaced the network card, router and surge protector, and still no internet when I directly connect the cable modem to my pc. I suppose Comcast is the only one who can solve this, thanks anyway for your help.

Well it could be the tcp/ip stack. At the command line netsh winsock reset and reboot and then test, if still no go the go into device manager and uninstall the NIC(s) and reboot, if they do not reinstall on reboot then reinstall them and test.
