What version and year? Recent versions of Norton do not work with Windows 7 without the proper patches.Norton AntiVirus 2009

What did you try to update? When the action center informs that an antivirus application needs updating, it is referring to the virus definitions and not necessarily the application.

Sounds like you might have LiveUpdate being blocked by the firewall. Is it allowed out as a trusted application?-Justin

LiveUpdate is not a seperate component in Norton AntiVirus 2009. Uknigel, you should first disable the Windows Firewall; use the Start Menu search box and type in "Windows Firewall". There should be an option for you to turn off/on the firewall. Turn it off, and attempt to update Norton within its interface. Are your definitions really outdated? Norton generally doesn't warn about outdated definitions, unless they are several weeks old, in my experiences. Or, the Action Center could be wrong. It is sometimes unreliable.Norton AntiVirus 2009
