Not recognizing Broadcom WLAN adapter
So I have an HP Pavillion tx1220us, really nice little laptop, the only problem is a few months ago the system wasn't detecting the Broadcom WLAN adapter anymore (as in, not listed under HP's wireless assistant, not listed under Windows device manager, definitely not finding any networks). The thing is it's kind of intermittent, every once in a while it will detect something for a few minutes, then not detect anything again. I reinstalled the driver, no effect. I gave it away to a repair place, that had it for six weeks, I thought they replaced the adapter, still nothing. Argh, this is frustrating! I'm not sure if it's a problem with Vista or with the adapter or something else. Could it be a startup program that's interfering? Some other update I'm missing? Anyone have any ideas?

As a means of simple troubleshooting, I would get a USB wireless adapter and see if you experience similar issues (I doubt if you would) by doing so, you can eliminate vista from the equation. Sounds more like a hardware issue where the card is not properly seated. I would certainly take that up with HP since you have a new machine.

Stun, I have exactly the same problem on a HP Pavilion 6423... infrequently the wlan card is recognized (on the good days!), on most I use a little external (Atheros/Senao) that also gives me a lot of trouble, but at least it's being seen by the system (Vista Home Premium).I feel that it might have to do with temperature (board connecticity), or even the BIOS - I've done everything, reseated the card, checked the hardware switch, flashed the BIOS, updated the driver, been to HP support (funny we didn't bump into e.a.), etc etc.Bottom line: It's unsolved, and I have a hunch it will remain so until it's time for a new machine. Pathetic and very frustrating, but true.Hope this at least makes you feel less alone with your dilemma.:-(
