Hi,
I recently deleted old PC backups in OneDrive due to a possible corrupted profile. When I deleted the backups I got the standard message that backups for PC Settings would be disabled. I thought that these could be turned back on, but I can't find where to
do this in OneDrive.
My PC still states that is is set to backup my PC Settings to OneDrive, but nothing happens. My PC is a trusted device, though it's not listed in the Security Settings, but I read that this option had changed and doesn't show devices and if they are not used
they are removed within two weeks.
How can I get my PC Settings to re-sync or turn back on the OneDrive backup?
Note: Normal syncing of files works fine, it's just my PC Settings and this is a fresh install of Windows 8.1 pro from the DVD.
Thanks.
I shall suggest you to Run the OneDrive troubleshooter
Hi,
Thanks for the link. I tried this and it found no issues, so I ran it again and reset OneDrive which I think it does the same as the following via the command line (which I've done so many times):
SkyDrive.exe /shutdown
SkyDrive.exe /reset
SkyDrive.exe
Neither option worked. I left it overnight to see if it was scheduled, but nothing happened. As there is technically nothing wrong with OneDrive, it's just the sync. As my screenshots show above, all my settings are turned on to sync everything, so
I'm guessing that deleting my backups has turned it off online (like the message stated when I removed them), and not locally but there are no OneDrive settings online for turning back on the sync. So I'm kind of stuck.
Thanks for your help anyway.
Hi,
Did you see the Back up settings option in the Sync settings?
Make sure you have turn on it. Since when you delete the backed up settings for your device, it will also turn off setting backups for this device.
Let's turn it on as the article below:

If you saw my screenshots and read my original post above, you'll see that everything is on. The screenshots were taken 2 days after I deleted my backups.
Thanks for the reply though.
Hi,
Yes, I fixed the issue. I forgot about this post due to lack of any real help.
I completely disabled OneDrive via the registery.
Launch regedit
-
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Skydrive
. -
Set
DisableFileSync
to1
. -
Reboot.
Then I reset my TCP/IP & Winsock via command prompt:
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
Rebooted again and then turned on OneDrive again via Regedit:
-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Skydrive
. -
Set
DisableFileSync
to 0. -
Reboot
It took a few hours of checking. but it eventually synced, so all is well. Hope it works for you.
Hello,
I have the same problem but I can not find "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Skydrive" anywhere in the Registry
Can you advise?
For some reason it's missing for some people.
You need to create the reg key.
If you don't have this key, you can simply create it by navigating to\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\ and
right-clicking on Windows > New> Key and
name it Skydrive. In
the right pane, right-click the empty space in the right pane and choose New > DWORD. Name it DisableFileSync. Double
click DisableFileSync and change its value to 1.
(Or you can Right-click > Modify > 1).
Reboot and re-enable it by changing DisableFileSync
to 0. Reboot once more.

The other thing to try is to go to https://onedrive.live.com/win8personalsettingsprivacy/ and follow the instructions of turning off Sync'ing on ALL of your devices (PC's, Laptops, Tablets, Phones, etc.) that are associated with your Microsoft Account. The same for "backup", turn those off as well, and delete the images from your OneDrive account.
Then after you have turned off everything, then select the "remove" button.
Now patience is a virtue... Wait a couple of days (seriously) for "Note: Your personal settings might not be deleted from the cloud immediately; some info might remain on Microsofts cloud servers until the next scheduled clean-up process." I have no clue what the clean-up schedule is, but 3-5 days... Maybe... 7 days to be sure.
Just don't go resetting any devices back to factory till you have waited and then turned back on sync and backup. Unless you REALLY want to have a fresh restart ;)
