One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1) Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page, or 2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the controls
Okay this problem started a week ago. When computer first starts or reboots ( I haven't opened any program yet!) I get this message,One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1) Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page, or 2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the controlsI know this usually happens with internet explroer but like I said I haven't even opened anything yet. i have enabled all active X controls in internet explorer with no luck. I have searched the web for active x and blocked publisher forums and followed all instructions for the error message (most of them refer to enabling active x) but with no luck. I am an advanced user (15+years) but this one has stumped me. If I try to open "Services" I get the same error. When I open my anti virus, it opens but it is just a blank page. I know my anti virus is working though. Also if i open internet explorer I get a blank page, if I go to a site (type it in or go to my favourites) it works fine. I deleted all temp, history, cookies etc. etc. (use CC Cleaner and other programs for clean up) but when reopened again it says blank. If i use help and want to view a help subject it says ( cannot display because of congestion or network trouble, check connection) but internet works fine. I know I don't have a virus (many people in forums think this) I have scanned with Bitdefender, Eset Nod32, Super Anti Spyware pro, Malaware Anti Malawarebytes, Spybot, Stopzilla, etc. etc. and did not find one virus (In SAFEMODE) There are alot of other people on the web having same problem, (with the same and some with different programs). This problem seems to be random ( does not affect a certain program) I have been trying for a week now and am stumped!! Anybody have any ideas I haven't heard yet???Thanks if you do!!

Hi Morksr2d2,Did you make any changes on your machine prior to this issue? You may configure the computer in clean boot and check if the issue persists. It will start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs and helps to eliminate software conflicts. The following link has steps showing how to perform clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the section ‘Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state’ from the article: How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Hope the information helps. Hi Debleena, I didn't make any changes at all just started the computer up one morning and this problem started! I have noticed though in my explorer internet security menu, there are 4 boxes ( Internet, local internet, my computr and an explorer icon with a yellow key on the right bottom of the icon) I have never noticed this extra icon before?? I tried setting all active x to enable (not recommended with no luck so set all back to default. I will try your recommendations and see what happens. Thanks Mark

hi i tried your steps for msconfig but when I hit apply I get message " access denied error was returned while attempting to change a device, log on as administrator account to make the specified changes" but when i reboot some changes have been made. I am logged in as administrator?? It seems when I disable all services, they actually get enabled! Thank god I can use another program to disable all these programs on startup! get the same message on startup: One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1) Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page, or 2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the controlsI also get another message now on startup " Program missing autocheck has cancelled ???" An ideas??????Thanks again mark

Hi mark,In order to diagnose the issue further, you may follow these methods & check if the issue reoccurs.Method 1You may boot into ‘safemode’ and check if the issue persists. It will start Windows XP with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed, follow the steps to boot the computer in safe mode with networking.a. Restart the computer.b. Start tapping F8 key.c. You will get advanced boot option window.d. Select the option ‘Safe mode’.A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XPMethod 2If you have the security softwares installed on your machine, disable them temporarily & check if the issue persists.Note: Ensure to enable your anti-virus back on the computer after you finish these steps. Hope the information helps. Please post back and let us know.RegardsDebleena SMicrosoft Answers Support EngineerVisit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

Hi debleena, Ok I tried the msconfig again and no programs opened on starup! Also i did not get the error message. I opened my email and roboform the 2 programs I usually run at startup and enabled them to run at startup, rebooted, no error message! Now I tried to open my anti virus program and I got the message! It opened but just a blank page. So I suspect it must be my anti virus must be corrupted! I will uninstall and reinstall and let you know what happens. I also tried to open my "Services" and I got the error message and could not open the services. If I use another program I use to open services, it will open but only with that program so i can disable certain services if I want to, but not the windows service program?? This was done before trying to open my anti virus program so something is still haywire. Well at least I am getting somewhere. I will let you know what I come up with........thanks again Mark

Hi Morksr2d2,As you have mentioned that the issue re-appeared as soon as you execute the antivirus program, it seems that we have found the cause of these error messages on startup. I would recommend you to uninstall the antivirus program & check if the issue re-appears. This should also enable you to make changes on services tab in system configuration utility.Later, reinstall the antivirus program.Hope the information helps.
