Opening email attachments in Outlook express opens them in outlook 2010
I've Windows XP Home SP3 and IE8 & OE6. I also have Office 2010 installed. I use OE6 for Email, it is set as Default Email App., but when I get an Email with Email attached, it opens Outlook 2010 which I only use for calerdering thus I have no Contacts in Outlook. This never happened in Office 2003 or 2007. Can this be corrected so Email attachments don't open in Outlook 2010?Thank you, Bill1 person needs an answerI do too

Bruce,OE is set as Default E-Mail Client and the I ran the exe above to Restore it as well. E-Mail with ^.eml attachments still open in a Outlook 2010 E-Mail Window. For now I'm just coping & *asting the info in that window to an OE Window. Thanks, Bill

Setting OE as default should have fixed it, AFAIK, but try this. 1. Download and save an eml attachment on the desktop. 2. Right click on the saved file. 3. Select: Open With from the pop-up menu. 4. Click: Choose [default] Program. 5. Select: Outlook Express 6. Check: Always use the selected program to open this kind of file. 7. Click OK.As mentioned here:If you have MS Outlook installed, also see #13: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#13 Every time you get an update to MS Outlook, it is going to steal the default from Outlook Express.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

Bruce, I went thru steps you outlined above & it worked for that *.eml Saved to Desktop but was still opening subsequent ones in Outlook 2010. I never had similar issue when I had Outlook 2003 & 2007.Yes I reas the #13 and aware of it changing Default every time Outlook was updated. When I had Outlook 2003 & 2007, Default changed as well but attached *.eml still Opened in OE. Thanks again, Bill

I would suggest bringing this to the Outlook forum. You are probably not the only one experiencing this and they just may have a solution.Microsoft Office Outlook Forumshttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/officeoutlookIf you have success, I would appreciate it if you post the solution, or a link to the thread, back here. It would be of help to others.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]
