Operation failed with error 0x000007e with Windows 7 and 2003 print server
Hello We are slowly starting to roll out some Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit PC's on campus and have a Windows 2003 print server that several print queues on it. We have a Canon ImageRunner C3220 that I updated the driver from version 8.35 to 8.80 because the 8.80 driver supports Windows 7. I was able to update the driver on the Windows 2003 box just fine but I am getting "Operation failed with error 0x0000007e whenever I try to install the Canon driver on a Windows 7 32 bit machine. I'm not seeing anything posted in the event logs at all. Also, we notice on our firewall (not windows 7 firewall) that two ports were being blocked when the driver was trying to install. We opened the two ports but we still get the same error. I was able to install another driver for a HP Laserjet 9050 with no problems. Thanks

You just stepped into a world of pain... :) This is more of a server question than a desktop OS question... Note: You will need to be a network administrator to make changes to your Server OS. 1. Get printer drivers = Download Windows 7 Compatible driver for Windows 7 x32/x64 from manufacturer's website 2. Extract the driver on desktop (WinRAR, WinZip...) 3. From the OS desktop (Windows 7) Open "printmanagement.msc" from a Start > Run 4. New window opens. Expand "Print Servers" on the left 5. Right-click on "Print Servers", select "Add/Remove Servers" 6. Enter the name of the Windows 2003 server. Apply, OK 7. Expand the print server on the left nav menu 8. Expand "Drivers" 9. Click in a blank area, select "Add Driver..." 10. Add the driver from the extracted folder. This will vary depending on the manufacturer. There should be a file with an *.inf extension. Windows 7 knows how to "talk" with the print driver to install it on the OS (2003). You then can configure a new printer from this tool as well.MCSE: 6771498
