Outlook Express
I posted a message regarding problems with Outlook Express. Well, after 2 days, it has suddenly fixed itself. The old messages are back and the new messages are coming in. I suspect that the In Box still has problems so will save as many messages as I can.1 person needs an answerI do too

The Inbox can sometimes become corrupted and to alleviate this, you should create folders of important mail outside of the Outlook Express mail store location. The best way to do this is to create a new folder, say, on a memory stick or external hard disk, and give it a meaningful name, e.g. Inbox2009 (representing a specific year or some other naming method). Open OE > Inbox > highlight the entries you want to copy or for all of them, click an entry then Ctrl+A (to select all) and drag the items to the new folder (Inbox2009), where they become individual .EML files. Of course, if you no longer need the copied emails in the Inbox, simply delete them as the mail is now effectively ‘off site’. Repeat the procedure for any important Sent Items or other folders that you have. When you want to read an old email, open the appropriate folder, double-click the one you want and OE will open it. In the .EML format they can be read by Outlook Express, Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail.

I replied to that post. General precautions for Outlook Express: Do not archive mail in the Inbox or Sent Items. Create your own user defined folders and move the messages you wish to save to them. Empty Deleted Items folder daily. Although dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2GB, I recommend about a 300MB max for less chance of corruption. Information about the maximum file size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=903095 After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 And backup often.
