Outlook Express 6 and Web email programs crash every time I try to attach a file.
I have XP with service pak 3 with IE 8.0 with plenty of memory and disk space. Everything is completely updated also.As soon as I click on the browse button to attach an email, my program just vanishes and I get a message that IE or Firefox has shut down. This happens in Outlook Express and all my web mail, too. I've tried reinstalling IE 8 and also intalled Firefox, too, and still have the same results. At the same time this problem appeared, Notepad and one of the graphics programs I use won't let me save without crashing. They just vanish!I have so many programs on this computer that I wouldn't begin to know where to start but I have disabled all my browser add ons and accelerators and all my startup programs running in the background. I also emptied the Temp. Internet file, etc. and reset my browser to it's default settings and still get the same reults.I have my email scanning turned off with my anti virus software and I get no results for virus's or spyware with that or my spyware programs.I have googled and Binged for days trying to find someone with simalur symptons to no avail. Everything was working fine for the last 4 years until about a month ago. (That's how long I've been searching for an answer). Please.....someone, help!

Yes.....I have been fine with this exact set-up for the last 4 years on this machine. I will try the things you suggested, that I haven't already tried and get back to you. I have tried most though. Also, I'm realizing that whenever I'm on a site that you can upload a picture to, as soon as I click on "Browse" to find a picture on my hard drive to upload, my computer freezes up and I have to end the task with task manager.By the way....I am running this computer on administrator account seeing that I am the sole user.

Well...none of that worked and I also wanted to point out that it seems to be happening every time I have to browse my hard drive for a file to attach or save. The save command isn't working either. Although, I can right click on a file and then choose "send to/mail recipient" to attach a file or if I get an attachment in email I can right click to save the attachment to my computer, but those actual commands from the menu bar in the actual program do not work. It's the same with my web mail.

Hi,Let’s follow these methods & check if the issue persists.Method 1You may configure the computer in clean boot and check if the issue persists. It will start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs and helps to eliminate software conflicts. The following link has steps showing how to perform clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the section ‘Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state’ from the article: How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Method 2If ‘Method 1’ doesn’t help, you may run acomplete disk check on your machine & check if the issue persists.
