Outlook express 6 - Can't open my Inbox.__
I started OE6 this morning and got a message to the effect Outlook cant open the in box. This may be due to low memory or insufficient disk space. I have ample disk space and memory. I can open all the other folders in outlook, it's just the inbox. This has effectively cut me off. I am using my wife's laptop but I can't run my business from this machine.I am using Windows XP I have downloaded and reinstalled IE8, still no inbox.I would really appreciate some help please. 1 person needs an answerI do too

Do not say Outlook if you mean Outlook Express. They are completely different programs. Is it Outlook Express? Please post any error message in its entirety. You can left click on it to highlight and then right click to copy and then paste it into this thread.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

As an update on this problem - I have located the 'inbox.dbx' file and it can't be accessed. All the other '.dbx' files can. If I try to delete it I get the following error message. "Error Deleting File or Folder" Cannot delete Inbox: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.Does this help? Keith B.

Your inbox is corrupt. With OE closed you need to move it to another directory. Then OE will create a new inbox when it opens again. The messages in the old corrupt inbox, if they are still there can be extracted using my DBXpress program (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/). You can also check your Recycle bin to see if there is a backup copy of the inbox that you can restore, if present. Seewww.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2 and see point 3 for the future. The reason you got the error was that OE was likely open, so you need to close it to move the file. steve "Schedule" wrote in message news:fdeb6284-f497-4676-8296-f81c3c7b7381...As an update on this problem - I have located the 'inbox.dbx' file and it can't be accessed. Thanks Steve.Whatever I try i.e. with the currupt Inbox, I keep getting the same 0error message. It does not want to be moved, deleted or anything. I can rename/move any of the other .dbx files it is just the Inbox that is the problem.I tried Safe Mode but the relevant Document and Settings entries are not there.Any other ideas?Keith B.

Does OE open enough for you to create a new identity? If so, do that and import all your messages except the Inbox. Make it the default identity and we'll worry about your other Inbox messages later. How to Create and Use Identities in Outlook Expresshttp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=209169Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

YW. That basically got rid of your old OE's contents and corruption. As long as saved messages were not an issue, then that was fine. Good job.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]
