PCI Simple Communications Driver not installed
I have a Gateway GT5238E. I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. This System is performing impeccably since the installation. However, while attempting to “Fine Tune” it, I was checking to see if all devices were running correctly and
discovered that there was a error in Device Manager for the computer itself. After running the Troubleshooter in an attempt to allow Windows 7 to automatically resolve the issue, the Troubleshooter comes back with a dialogue box that states “PCI Simple
Communications does not have a driver not fixed”. Do ANY of you EXPERTS have a recommendation as I have been trying to resolve this issue for approx. 3 days and seem to now be running in circles.

When you need drivers for a hardware device you go to the manufacturer's Support website and download the appropriate driver. Hardware drivers are supplied by the manufacturer, not Microsoft.
You go to
http://support.gateway.com/product/default.aspx?partNumber=1009189 and scroll down to
Modem and download the file listed for the Modem:
PCI Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP Be aware this may not be a Windows 7 comaptible driver. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

There is NO Modem installed in my Computer, therefore the Link you supplied would not execute completely. Again, Thank You for your assistance. F. Y. I. I am directly connected to the Internet through a Linksys Network Adapter!!

I've had that message when the Intel Management Engine Interface Driver was not installed. As Gateway lists that drtiver for your system, I suppose that you need it.
Gateway doesn't list Win7 drivers. You can download them directly from Intel:

These are the latest. They are intended to support the latest P67 chipset. I don't know whether they also support your oldet chipset.
