Pause printing betwen print jobs
Hi,
In Windows Xp we could print multiple reports to a PDF printer and the PDF “save” dialog box will appear to allow you to enter the PDF file name. WinXP wil NOT continue
to the next print job until you entered the file name. This was exactly wat we needed because you will read the correct file name from the ERP app and enter it into the PDF “save” dialog box and hit save. The file was saved and only then wil the
next report print to the PDF printer. In Win 7 if you print multiple documents to a PDF driver, all the document are printed at once and you are stuck with a stack of PDF "save" dialog boxes and you don’t know which one is which. Is there any way in
win 7 to set the print spooler or something in order for it to wait until the first print is finished before starting the next one? In XP you set the printer property "print directly to printer" to accomplish this but if you do this in win 7 it doesn't work.
-- To test this, create several text documents, select them all, Right click, and Print to a PDF driver (ex. CutePDF)
Please assist.
Leon.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.
I can reproduce this issue to CutePDF printer on my Windows 7. I have experienced missing documents when selecting All and print directly to the printer.
It seems a compatibility issue between PDF driver and Windows 7. The workaround is to printer the documents separately.
Best Regards

Hi,
I don't think it is compatibility because I have tried 5 different free PDF drivers (which claims they are Win7 compatable) and they all react the same. In my test setup I created
4 small text files (1.txt, 2.txt, ect.) and you can even use Microsoft XPS writer and you will have the same problem (Set XPS writer as the default printer, select all the text files, R-Click and print) you wil then have 4 save as dialog boxes opened. In XP
this happened chronological, the second "save as" box only popped up when you hit save on the first one. This does not happen in Windows 7 which causes a major problem for us.
Please help.

Hi,
I believe this issue need the printer driver support to be involved as they have more accurate information with the internal function during printing. Windows provide the data base and service for printer driver to call.

Hi,
Isn't it the way the print spooler handles print jobs? Win7 is more into muti tasking than XP, thus it will finish all the print jobs and leave you with a stack of print windows waiting for inputs. As I've mentioned above, even microsoft's own XPS driver reacts
the same in win7 and worked fine in XP. Does anybody know how to contact MS so that they can fix this. If you phone them, they will only talk to you if you have a maintenance contract.
Regards,
Leon.
