Ping & File And Print Sharing
If I understand correctly, Windows-7 by default blocks pings (ICMP) via the Firewall. However, I noticed that when File and Print Sharing is enabled I am able to ping the Win-7 Pro system in question. When File and Print Sharing is disabled I am unable to. I need to be able to ping this system but due to the nature of the data on the system I cannot have File and Print Sharing enabled. Where can I create a rule that will allow pings to this system yet keep File and Print Sharing disabled? Thanks.

The behavior you described is a feature of Windows Firewall.
