Pinging IPv6 Link Local addresses not working
Hi Everyone I have a Windows 7 Ultimate N client and a Windows 7 Enterprise client. Both PCs are on the same VLAN (Ethernet segment). I want to test IPv6 connectivity and so I tried pinging the link local address of one client from the other but I have been unsuccessful to date. The client however is able to ping itself using its own link local address. Can anyone assist? Thanks. - Andre

Ping uses icmp echo and modern firewalls disable that by default. Also rmember to use the ping -6 option to force ping to use IPv6. Bill

Hi Bill I am able to ping the IPv4 addresses from one machine to another so I don't think the firewall config is an issue. I get the same result when I do a ping -6 (force the use of IPv6 addresses). I also tried the same thing on two Windows 2008 R2 servers and I get the same thing. - Andre

Hi, To troubleshoot the issue, I suggest you upgrade the NIC driver to the latest one and temporarily turn off firewall or antivirus program to check the result. If the issue persists, please post the error message here for research. Thanks, Novak
