Please wait while Microsoft configures Lync, spins, and nothing

I had to turn off automatic startup for Lync because I log in remotely sometimes and it really drags down that process having Lync booting at the same time.

So now, every time I try to open Lync, it runs through the installer and says "Please wait," the cursor spins for a bit, and then nothing happens.

I found a quick fix last week for it (downloaded, ran, problem solved) but the issue came back. How can I solve this problem permanently?

UPDATE: I still have the Fixit.msi from last week, and running that again and rebooting has solved my problem.... temporarily. I would still like to know if there is a permanent fix.

How are you starting it?  Your own icon or the one that was created in program files?

When I first used it I pinned the icon to the taskbar and that is what I am using.

I've seen this with recreated icons oddly enough.  Good luck with whatever it turns out to be and please post a solution if you find one.

Hi Jon_064,

Did the issue occur when starting the Lync icon that was created in program files?

Please reinstall Lync client.

Please also perform Clean Boot and then test the issue again.

You can refer to the link about how to perform clean boot below:

Reinstalled, clean boot, still having the problem.

I have gotten around it by using a shortcut to the application called "communicator.exe" in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Lync' instead of the pinned shortcut when Lync actually does start. Weird but there you go.
